A foodies guide to: Dubai

Our office in Dubai knows quite a bit when it comes to the best places to eat in their fair city. Yes, the hotel restaurants are the only place you can get an alcoholic drink to go with your dinner, but that’s no reason to stay away from the local places where the food can be simply outstanding.

When it comes to hotels, Dubai has some of the most iconic in the world and many come with equally luxurious dining opportunities. In fact, some of the best restaurants in Dubai are known to reside within hotels such as the Burj Al Arab, One&Only Royal Mirage and the Madinat Jumeirah, so first up, here are our favourites within the hotels themselves.

Burj Al Arab

The Burj Al Arab is home to a multitude of restaurants including Al Iwan, one of its most famed and serving up only the best in Arabian cuisine in opulent surroundings. Open throughout the day, it is ideal for anyone looking for traditional Arabic fare with views out over the ocean. Another favourite at the Burj is the Al Mahara, or ‘The Oyster Shell’ in Arabic. It offers a great array of fresh seafood in a chic setting surrounding by the great aquarium. However, it is Al Muntaha, or ‘The Top’ that really lures diners to the Burj. On the 27th floor, the views are simply outstanding and the modern European cuisine, delightful.

The One&Only Royal Mirage is another hotel with a wealth of restaurants, the favourites being the amazing seafood at The Jetty Lounge, which, as its name suggests, is located on a jetty jutting out in the gulf. The second is the newly revamped Celebrities, which has upgraded its look and feel with crystal chandeliers and stylish architecture to enhance the sophisticated atmosphere and classic European menu.

The Madinat Jumeirah is the third and final hotel on our list, though many more were named. A favourite of our colleagues was the Al Fayrooz Lounge, renowned across the Emirates for its afternoon tea. Here you’ll find views of the Gulf, wonderful traditional English cakes and sandwiches as well as an array of teas. Our second favourite here is Pierchic, which serves outstanding seafood, which has won multiple awards, in chic surrounds.

Deira Spice Souk

Outside of the hotels you’ll find a vast array of Dubai restaurants, which can be equally as luxurious and well worth the journey outside of your hotel and of course no trip to Dubai would be complete without a wander through the souks, especially the Deira spice souk, where the air is thickly scented, and stalls are piled high. For restaurants, Sarband offers great Persian food, with accompanying shisha in an al fresco setting whilst Sushi Sushi, which is very close by, offers the best of these Japanese delights. Le Petit Maison is celebrated across Dubai, winning countless awards, and offers one of the best fine dining experiences in the city. The Buddha Bar is another sought after venue, currently under refurbishment, but is back in October 2015, bigger and better than ever.
